Vintage Character 2010 Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs is a North Coast California brut sparkling wine made entirely from Chardonnay, produced in the traditional method by one of the great names in American fizz. The 2010 growing season was notably cool across much of coastal Northern California, which preserved acidity and led to a finer, more tightly wound style that rewards patience and offers excellent balance. Drawn from cool-climate vineyards across the North Coast, including sites influenced by maritime fog and long ripening conditions, the wine’s origin is distinctive for combining bright citrus precision with the layered richness that extended lees aging can bring.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing The 2010 vintage earned 91 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, underscoring its pedigree. On the nose it shows green apple, lemon zest, white peach and citrus blossom, followed by hints of brioche, roasted almond and lemon cream. The palate is brisk and finely beaded, with lively acidity, a medium-bodied mousse and a chalky, persistent finish that keeps the wine energetic rather than heavy. It pairs beautifully with oysters, roast chicken with herbs, or lobster risotto.
Winery Background Founded in 1862 by Jacob Schram on Diamond Mountain in Napa Valley, Schramsberg was revived in 1965 by Jack and Jamie Davies, who set out to craft world-class American sparkling wine from cool-climate fruit. The house remains especially respected for helping define premium méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine in the United States, and its Blanc de Blancs was the first wine released under the modern Schramsberg era. Fruit is hand-harvested from multiple vineyard partners, whole-cluster pressed, fermented for freshness and complexity, then matured on the lees before disgorgement, a disciplined approach that gives the wine both finesse and depth.
