Vintage Character Alain Michelot Morey Saint Denis 2023 comes from the Village Morey Saint Denis designation in Bourgogne. Unsettled spring temperatures delayed budbreak enough to avoid the rare spring frosts. Summer thunderstorms relieved a persistent water deficit, and hot sunshine then concentrated sugar, flavour and colour. Heat above 35°C at the start of harvest led some growers to pick at night or before sunrise. The contrast between timely rain and late heat is central to this vintage's fruit and balance. For Pinot Noir from Morey Saint Denis, the season puts acidity and tannin texture in dialogue with red-fruit ripeness. In the Morey Saint Denis appellation bottling, expect supple fruit and easy movement.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing A touch of earth and discreet spice checks the red cherry, raspberry and violet aromas. On the palate it is dry and medium in body, with fine, medium tannin and medium-high acidity giving the Morey Saint Denis fruit a fresh frame. The finish is clean and moderately long, with forest floor and dried flowers adding depth as the wine ages. Try it with roast chicken and herb mushrooms, or glazed duck with mild spices; the fine tannin and medium-high acidity suit these dishes without overpowering them.
Winery Background Domaine Alain Michelot has been developed by four generations since 1880 and farms about 8 hectares in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Morey-Saint-Denis and Clos de Vougeot. Quality and authenticity are the domaine's stated aims. Élodie Michelot, Alain's daughter, now runs winemaking, and the wines are raised in French oak barrels for roughly 15 to 18 months depending on the cuvée. Here, the Morey Saint Denis village bottling shows that family approach in its own appellation.
