Vintage Character Domaine Henri Delagrange Pommard Les Vaumuriens Haut 2020 is produced from a 0.697‑hectare parcel of Pinot Noir vines averaging 40 years of age, planted on limestone bedrock above the Premier Cru slopes of Pommard. The 2020 vintage in Burgundy was widely acclaimed, shaped by a hot, dry summer with timely rainfall that yielded wines of concentration, ripe fruit, and freshness. This cuvée presents a dense ruby‑black robe and aromas of blackberry, blueberry, redcurrant, and cherry pit, with a subtle wild, gamey nuance that can emerge with age.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing On the palate, it combines power and minerality, delivering firm tannins, layered dark fruit, and a long, complex finish. Its depth and aromatic intensity make it a superb partner for feathered or furred game such as roast pheasant or braised venison, as well as a rich mushroom ragout. The Delagrange family has been established in Volnay for generations, with Domaine Henri Delagrange et Fils cultivating around 14 hectares across the Côte de Beaune, including holdings in Volnay, Pommard, Aloxe‑Corton, and Meursault.
Winery Background Their philosophy emphasizes respect for terroir, careful vineyard management, and minimal intervention in the cellar to preserve authenticity. Grapes for Les Vaumuriens Haut are hand‑harvested, fully destemmed, and fermented for 18 days in open, temperature‑controlled stainless steel vats with very little punching down and some pumping over to ensure gentle extraction. The wine is then matured for 12 months in French oak barrels, 10–20% of which are new, followed by 4 months in stainless steel to harmonize before bottling. This thoughtful approach allows the wine to express both the muscular structure of Pommard and the elegance that characterizes the domaine’s style, making Les Vaumuriens Haut a benchmark for lovers of robust yet refined Burgundy
