Vintage Character The 2024 Roserock Chardonnay comes from Eola-Amity Hills, the cooler, wind-swept part of Oregon's Willamette Valley. Across Oregon, a cool spring slowed the start of the growing season, but harvest ultimately proved strong. The cool beginning favours Chardonnay, giving slow, even ripening and keeping natural acidity high. Here that shows in orchard-fruit ripeness paired with a steely, mineral freshness. The wine is built on Roserock's volcanic soils, which add a stony tension to the fruit, and it drinks as a youthful, focused Chardonnay with plenty of life ahead of it.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing The winemaker's note opens with pear, citrus blossom and white peach, moving towards honeyed nectarine, crushed seashell and a light creamy impression. Lime and yuzu give the dry palate a sharper citrus edge and carry into a long finish. Wine Spectator gave it 93 points, praising lemon, nectarine, spice and stony mineral tones, and James Suckling scored it 92. Try it with grilled prawns, roast chicken with lemon or a mild goat-cheese tart: each lets the fruit and acidity stay clear without being overwhelmed. Serve well chilled but not ice-cold.
Winery Background The Drouhin family established its Oregon estate in 1987 and added Roserock in 2013. The Eola-Amity Hills site has volcanic soils and a cooling influence from Pacific air funnelling through the Van Duzer Corridor, which sets it apart from the family's Dundee Hills vineyard. Roserock Chardonnay draws on three estate Chardonnay blocks, picked and sorted by hand before pressing. The juice is divided between tank and barrel, and the components are assembled after malolactic fermentation by Véronique Drouhin. This approach explains a rounded centre alongside a fresh edge, and a wine that stays true to the family's Burgundian sense of balance.
