Weingut Hiedler Grüner Veltliner 'Schenkenbichl' 1ÖTW 2024
Vintage Character
Kamptal’s Erste Lage Schenkenbichl vineyard is the source of Hiedler Grüner Veltliner Schenkenbichl 1ÖTW 2023, a single-vineyard Austrian white that showcases the expressive minerality and depth characteristic of this renowned site. The 2023 vintage in Kamptal was marked by a mild spring and a warm, stable summer, producing grapes with balanced ripeness and vibrant aromatics—a combination that shaped a classic Grüner Veltliner with tension and purity.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
Awarded 94 points by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, this wine opens with enticing aromas of lime, white peach, and subtle white pepper, all underscored by a stony minerality. On the palate, it is vibrant and layered, revealing juicy citrus, ripe pear, and a fine herbal twist; the texture is both crisp and creamy, finishing with a lingering saline edge. This wine pairs beautifully with grilled sea bass, asparagus risotto, or a light Cantonese steamed fish, elevating delicate flavors and enhancing umami notes.
Winery Background
The Hiedler family, whose roots in Kamptal reach back to the 19th century, is celebrated for their pioneering work with Grüner Veltliner and their dedication to sustainable vineyard stewardship. Today, Ludwig Hiedler and his sons continue this tradition, focusing on organic practices and minimal intervention to highlight the authenticity of their sites. Their philosophy centers on respect for nature and terroir, with careful hand harvesting and spontaneous fermentation in large oak barrels, allowing the Schenkenbichl vineyard to express its unique character. Hiedler is a founding member of the Österreichische Traditionsweingüter (ÖTW), underscoring their commitment to quality and the distinction of Kamptal’s top vineyards.
