Big Sky ‘Provenance’ Pinot Noir 2014 is a limited-production wine from Martinborough’s Te Muna Valley, crafted to showcase the estate’s finest fruit and most expressive terroir. The 2014 vintage in Martinborough was relatively cool with some late-season rain, producing wines of elegance, moderate alcohol, and fine aromatic detail. This Pinot Noir, made from low-yielding 15-year-old vines (Clone 115) on free-draining alluvial terraces, was hand-harvested and vinified with a mix of destemmed and whole-cluster fruit. After a seven-day cold soak and wild yeast fermentation, it spent 28 days on skins before maturing for 22 months in French oak (around 35% new). The result is a wine of depth and finesse, with aromas of dark berries, violet, and subtle spice, layered with tobacco and mineral notes.
