Domaine Mélanie Pfister Riesling 'Berg' Alsace 2022
Vintage Character
Melanie Pfister Berg Riesling 2022 is a dry Alsace AOC Riesling from a named lieu-dit in Dahlenheim, in the northern Bas-Rhin, where this estate has become known for incisive, limestone-shaped wines. The 2022 vintage in Alsace was warm and notably dry, bringing generous ripeness, yet careful picking preserved the grape’s natural acidity, making this a particularly successful year for vibrant, precise Riesling. Berg draws much of its character from Muschelkalk limestone soils, a defining feature of this sector, giving the wine its lifted tension, saline edge, and stony persistence.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
The nose is finely etched, opening on lemon zest, green apple, white peach and white flowers, then gaining notes of crushed stone and a light flinty nuance. On the palate it is medium-bodied, bone-dry and tightly focused, with high acidity carrying citrus, orchard fruit and mineral tones through a long, mouthwatering finish. Its combination of clarity and cut makes it especially versatile at table: try it with oysters, trout meunière, or sushi and sashimi.
Winery Background
Domaine Mélanie Pfister is a long-established family estate in Dahlenheim, with roots dating back to the eighteenth century, and Mélanie Pfister represents the eighth generation to lead it. After training in both engineering and oenology and gaining experience at leading French domaines, she brought a philosophy of precision, sustainability and transparent site expression back to the family vineyards. The estate works parcel by parcel, with hand-harvesting used where needed and a restrained cellar approach designed to preserve purity; in style, these are benchmark modern Alsace wines that favor dryness, definition and terroir over richness for its own sake.
