Vintage Character Pierre Girardin Chassagne Montrachet 'Les Chênes' 2024 is a village-level Chardonnay from Burgundy's Côte de Beaune. Across Burgundy, the growing season was unusually wet, with frost and hail further reducing potential yields. Dry, sunny August weather helped the remaining fruit ripen, while rigorous selection reduced the final crop. Côte de Beaune whites emerged with clear fruit expression and balanced, juicy palates, generally at slightly lower alcohol levels than recent vintages. Against that background, this 2024 offers the freshness and definition that make the region's whites particularly appealing.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Pear, crisp apple and lemon lead the aromas, with delicate flowers and a mineral accent. Lightly toasted oak adds depth without obscuring the fruit. The palate combines a silky feel with lively acidity, carrying its orchard-fruit flavours into a persistent, balanced finish. Its dry, refreshing profile makes it a good partner for pan-seared scallops, roast chicken with a light cream sauce, or Cantonese steamed fish with ginger. Enjoy it while its fruit is vivid, or allow a few years in the cellar for greater integration.
Winery Background Pierre-Vincent Girardin made his first vintage in 2017, establishing his own direction after learning from his father, Vincent Girardin. Based in Meursault, he places particular emphasis on retaining freshness and expressing individual sites. His approach to white wines includes specially designed 456-litre oak barrels, twice the capacity of a traditional Burgundian barrel, to limit the wood's influence. This preference for larger vessels helps explain the balance between texture and aromatic clarity in his whites, while Les Chênes presents his style at village level.
