Vintage Character The 2022 season in Burgundy brought late budburst, repeated heatwaves and limited rainfall. The later start helped many vines avoid April frost, while the dry heat tested their balance. Across the region, the grapes showed concentration without losing balance. In Beaune 'Les Teurons' this shows as dark cherry and plum fruit without overripe heaviness. Compared with the cooler 2021, the 2022 is more layered and generous in fruit, yet its finesse keeps the warmth of the year from tipping into jamminess, and the wine has the structure to improve over the next several years.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Dark cherry leads the nose, followed by plum and a subtle savoury undertone. The dry palate has depth but stays composed rather than broad or sweet. The texture builds in layers, and a measured tannic frame supports a clear, persistent finish at 13% alcohol. Try it with roast quail, grilled lamb cutlets or wild-mushroom pasta, which echo the wine's savoury side while leaving the fruit and texture in view. Serve slightly below room temperature, and give a young bottle some air if the fruit seems closed at first. Even in a warm year, it reads as poised Beaune Pinot Noir.
Winery Background Pascal Marchand and Moray Tawse run an estate range and a separate négociant range from their cellars in Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Les Teurons belongs to the estate range sold as Domaine Tawse. The estate's own vineyards are farmed with an organic approach, although some 2021 and 2022 estate bottles carried Marchand-Tawse on the label. Chief winemaker Mark Fincham varies whole-bunch use by cuvée rather than following one fixed recipe, and the house is known for a moderate share of new oak. For this bottle the emphasis falls on the layered fruit and fine balance of the Teurons site.
