Sokol Blosser Winery Pinot Noir 'Kalita Vineyard Estate' 2023
Vintage Character
Sokol Blosser Kalita Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir 2023 comes from Oregon’s Dundee Hills AVA in the Willamette Valley, a benchmark zone for elegant, site-driven Pinot Noir. The 2023 vintage in Oregon was shaped by a long growing season that supported steady ripening, helping preserve freshness while building layered fruit, and it has the balance to be considered a strong vintage for refined, aromatic Pinot Noir. Kalita Vineyard’s hillside setting in the Dundee Hills, rooted in the region’s distinctive volcanic Jory soils, is central to the wine’s character, lending lift, fine texture, and the red-fruited purity for which this estate is known.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
The wine opens with vivid aromas of cherry, raspberry, rose petal, and baking spice, followed by subtle notes of forest floor and tea. On the palate, it is silky yet energetic, with bright acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a core of red berries, cranberry, and gentle oak seasoning that carries into a poised, savory finish. Its finesse makes it a natural partner for duck breast, roast salmon with herbs, or mushroom risotto, all of which echo the wine’s earthy nuance and graceful structure.
Winery Background
Founded in 1971, Sokol Blosser is one of the pioneering family estates of the Dundee Hills and helped define the modern identity of Oregon Pinot Noir. The estate is widely recognized for sustainable farming and careful stewardship of its hillside vineyards, with hand-harvesting and thoughtful cellar work aimed at expressing site over weight. Fermentation and élevage are designed to preserve aromatic clarity and texture rather than excess extraction, and that restrained philosophy is exactly what makes Sokol Blosser such a dependable reference point for balanced, terroir-conscious Oregon wine.
