Vintage Character Domaine Morey-Coffinet Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge 2024 reflects a cool, wet Burgundy season through freshness and a relatively delicate frame. Persistent rainfall brought mildew and grey-rot pressure, making vineyard attention and sorting particularly important. At the estate, grass was encouraged between the rows to compete for excess water, and the resulting fruit quality was strong despite the difficult regional conditions. This regional Pinot Noir carries that lighter, energetic character rather than the density associated with a hot year. Its appeal lies in clear fruit and an unforced, lively balance.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Fresh, ripe red berries lead the nose, accompanied by violet, peony and a lightly earthy, wild accent. Subtle spice and a mineral suggestion broaden the profile without overwhelming the fruit. The palate is lively and supple, with modest, delicate tannins and a finish that remains gently layered rather than weighty. It is suited to drinking over the next several years while its floral character is vivid. Try it with roast turkey, a lentil and mushroom dish or Cantonese roast pork, avoiding heavily sweet sauces that could mask its finer details.
Winery Background Domaine Morey-Coffinet was established in 1980 through the marriage of Fabienne Coffinet and Michel Morey, uniting vineyards inherited from two winegrowing families. Their son Thibault joined in 2000 and helped direct a gradual change in farming: herbicides were abandoned in 2002, organic certification followed in 2018, and biodynamic principles have been practised since 2015. Hand harvesting and careful sorting remain central. In the historic cellars, oak barrels sit alongside amphorae and egg-shaped vessels, with the choice of containers guided by balance and the character of each wine.
