Vintage Character Domaine Morey-Coffinet Chassagne Montrachet 'Chaumes & Chambres' Rouge 2024 is a combined bottling shaped by a difficult growing season. Cool conditions and persistent rain increased mildew and grey-rot pressure across Burgundy, while the small crop prompted the estate to bring these two parcels together. Grass between the vine rows helped compete for excess water during the wet year. Its identity reflects the partnership of older Chaumes vines with younger Pinot Fin in Chambres, rather than the expression of one parcel alone. In this cool, wet vintage, the resulting red favours freshness and a fine, crunchy texture.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Deep crimson-ruby in colour, it offers fresh red fruit and a pretty, finely drawn palate. The fruit remains clear through the middle, with an even, gently crunchy finish that gives the wine definition without a heavy tannic impression. That poised structure makes it appealing for a modest period of cellaring, with a suggested drinking window from 2027 to 2030. Serve it alongside roast guinea fowl, a mushroom and herb tart or lightly glazed char siu. Avoiding strong sweetness or chilli will help retain the delicate fruit and the wine's nimble balance.
Winery Background Domaine Morey-Coffinet was established in 1980 through the marriage of Fabienne Coffinet and Michel Morey, uniting vineyards inherited from two winegrowing families. Their son Thibault joined in 2000 and helped direct a gradual change in farming: herbicides were abandoned in 2002, organic certification followed in 2018, and biodynamic principles have been practised since 2015. Hand harvesting and careful sorting remain central. In the historic cellars, oak barrels sit alongside amphorae and egg-shaped vessels, with the choice of containers guided by balance and the character of each wine.
