Vintage Character Domaine Morey-Coffinet Chassagne Montrachet 'Les Chambres' Rouge 2023 combines the ripe fruit of a generous season with an especially lively, fine-textured expression of Pinot Noir. The Côte de Beaune began with a mild, dry winter before spring rain restored soil moisture. Summer was uneven, and a cool, rainy August preceded later heat that required attentive selection. Against that changing background, the wine retains freshness within its supple fruit. The balance is more useful to its character than a simple description of the year as warm: ripeness is present without obscuring a focused line.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry form a bright red-fruit core, lifted by floral notes and delicate spice. A faint smoky accent adds savoury interest, while the palate feels silky and precise rather than broad or heavy. Lively acidity and subtle tannins carry the fruit into a lingering, mineral-toned finish. It has the composure for several years of development, but its aromatic detail is already an important part of the appeal. Pair it with roast duck, mushroom risotto or gently seasoned steamed chicken with shiitake, keeping the accompaniments restrained enough to preserve its finesse.
Winery Background Domaine Morey-Coffinet was established in 1980 through the marriage of Fabienne Coffinet and Michel Morey, uniting vineyards inherited from two winegrowing families. Their son Thibault joined in 2000 and helped direct a gradual change in farming: herbicides were abandoned in 2002, organic certification followed in 2018, and biodynamic principles have been practised since 2015. Hand harvesting and careful sorting remain central. In the historic cellars, oak barrels sit alongside amphorae and egg-shaped vessels, with the choice of containers guided by balance and the character of each wine.
