Vintage Character Domaine Morey-Coffinet Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge 2023 brings the generosity of its growing season into a regional Pinot Noir with a notably firm core. In the Côte de Beaune, a mild, dry winter was followed by spring rain that replenished water reserves. Cool, rainy August weather then interrupted the summer's warmth, while later heat made careful sorting important. Those contrasts help explain a vintage capable of ripe, dense fruit without uniformly soft structure. Here, concentration is balanced by a compact, youthful finish that rewards a little patience.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Raspberry and cranberry provide the bright aromatic register, with darker plum, earth and humus adding depth underneath. The palate is concentrated and textured, but firm tannins give it a muscular, slightly rustic edge rather than immediate softness. A faint bitter-fruit impression contributes to the compact finish. This is a useful bottle to approach over the next few years, allowing its fruit and structure to come together. Serve with roast chicken, mushroom tart or soy-braised pork; savoury flavours and some richness will suit the wine better than a very delicate dish.
Winery Background Domaine Morey-Coffinet was established in 1980 through the marriage of Fabienne Coffinet and Michel Morey, uniting vineyards inherited from two winegrowing families. Their son Thibault joined in 2000 and helped direct a gradual change in farming: herbicides were abandoned in 2002, organic certification followed in 2018, and biodynamic principles have been practised since 2015. Hand harvesting and careful sorting remain central. In the historic cellars, oak barrels sit alongside amphorae and egg-shaped vessels, with the choice of containers guided by balance and the character of each wine.
