Vintage Character
Sagona 'Fonfon' 2020 is a white Toscana IGT from eastern Tuscany, made from Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia Bianca harvested from a fifty-year-old vineyard planted at about 250 metres altitude in Val d'Ambra, on the slopes of Pratomagno. The 2020 growing season in this elevated corner of Arezzo province was warm and balanced, with enough diurnal variation to preserve freshness in the fruit. Extended skin maceration and ageing in concrete tanks, with spontaneous fermentation, no filtration, no fining, and very low sulfites, give the wine its distinctive amber-tinged, textural character.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
The nose opens with ripe quince, dried chamomile, beeswax, and a hint of preserved lemon, followed by almond skin and wild herbs. On the palate it is medium-bodied and layered, with a gentle tannic grip from the skin contact, bright acidity, and a long, saline finish that carries dried apricot and honeyed floral notes. This is a skin-contact white built for the table rather than the textbook, rewarding food pairings like roast chicken with herbs, aged pecorino, or grilled vegetables with olive oil.

Sagona is an artisan estate in Loro Ciuffenna, on the slopes of the Pratomagno mountains in the province of Arezzo. Led by Daniele Corrotti, the winery works just four hectares of old vines, farmed organically and vinified with minimal intervention. Total production across all wines averages around 4,000 bottles, making each cuvée a genuine small-batch expression of this lesser-known Tuscan terroir.
