Vintage Character Fattoria La Maliosa 'Saturnalia' Bianco 2024 is a skin-contact white shaped by a cool, rainy growing season around Pitigliano. Temperatures stayed below average, particularly during harvest, slowing the ripening of Procanico and Trebbiano. Picking took place in the second half of September, bringing fruit with modest alcohol and a naturally agile balance. The vineyard's volcanic ground and elevation of about 300 metres form the setting for this restrained expression. Rather than seeking maximum weight, the wine reflects the year's lighter proportions and the freshness retained through a prolonged route to maturity.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Yellow fruit and white flowers lead the aromas, followed by sage and a delicate tea-like note. The palate is medium-bodied and fluid, with a taut line of acidity and smooth, unobtrusive tannins from contact with the skins. That gentle grip adds shape without making the wine feel heavy, while a fresh, savoury close keeps the wine lively. Try it with roast chicken and herbs, a vegetable tart, or steamed fish with ginger. These dishes suit its combination of aromatic detail, refreshing acidity and a little more texture than a conventionally pressed white.
Winery Background The fruit comes from vines about thirty-five years old on Pitigliano's volcanic soils. Fermentation begins with local yeasts, and the skins remain with the wine for roughly two weeks, with periodic punching down. Around six months in stainless steel follows, including the gently pressed portion. La Maliosa works through Metodo Corino, a plant-based regenerative approach that connects vineyard care with restrained cellar practice. The result is a distinctive Tuscan white whose personality rests on local varieties, patient skin contact and an intentionally direct expression of its growing season.
