Vintage Character The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 'Les Chenevottes' Premier Cru belongs to a Burgundy year shaped by late budburst, four heatwaves and widespread drought. The delayed spring reduced April frost exposure, and short spells of rain helped the vines continue through summer. The regional wine board records concentration together with fresh fruit and energy. Chenevottes sits north of Chassagne village on a well-drained, east-facing mid-slope. Its stony limestone ground means the year's heat is not simply a story of ripeness: fruit weight meets a firm mineral line, giving a Chardonnay that feels composed.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing The estate calls this the most restrained of its three Chassagne premier crus, less forceful than Clos Saint Jean or Les Vergers. Fresh bread, toast and almond give it a savoury aromatic edge, with lemon, pear and white flowers beneath, while a creamy suggestion does not make the palate heavy. A direct, delicate texture and richness held in check by finesse are central to its appeal, at 12.5% alcohol. In warm 2022 the fruit middle is fuller, yet framed by the quieter architecture. Chanterelles in a light cream sauce or simply roasted poultry echo the producer's pairing advice.
Winery Background The climat name Chenevottes recalls former hemp fields. Although it lies close to Montrachet, the wine is a premier cru from its own plot. Génot-Boulanger was founded in Meursault in 1974 and has certified all its cuvées organic from the 2018 vintage onward. The Chardonnay is hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed, then fermented in oak after light settling, initially without added sulphur. About twelve months in barrel with limited new wood are followed by six months in steel. Bottling without filtration preserves the parcel's supple texture and deliberately modest force.
