Vintage Character From the celebrated Cru Beaujolais appellation, the 2022 Alex Foillard Brouilly highlights a vintage defined by warm, sunny conditions that yielded beautifully concentrated fruit with supple tannins. This micro-production red wine hails from a single hectare of old Gamay vines planted during the 1950s and 1960s in the renowned "La Folie" climat. The decomposed granite and sandy soils of this terroir impart a distinctive mineral energy and elegant structure, setting a superb foundation for this expressive cuvée.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing On the nose, it reveals vibrant aromas of wild strawberries, red cherries, and subtle cracked black pepper, accompanied by delicate violet notes. The palate is medium-bodied and silky, defined by remarkably pure fruit, lively acidity, and ultra-fine tannins that lead into a refreshing, mineral-driven finish. It pairs beautifully with classic roasted duck breast, herb-crusted pork tenderloin, or Cantonese barbecued pork (Char Siu) which complements its bright red-fruit character.
Winery Background Following in the footsteps of his father, the legendary natural wine pioneer Jean Foillard, winemaker Alex Foillard established his independent domaine in 2016 to champion minimalist intervention. He farms his small estate organically, prioritizing hand-harvesting and ancient vines to capture the purest essence of the grapes. The wine is vinified using native yeasts and whole-cluster semi-carbonic maceration, then aged in neutral oak vessels and bottled unfined and unfiltered to retain its natural energy.
