Vintage Character Bachelards Fleurie 2022 is a Cru Beaujolais Gamay from Fleurie parcels on fine pink granite. Across Beaujolais, July was exceptionally hot, sunny and dry; August remained hot but brought localised rain around mid-month. The regional body also recorded early picking and small yields. Those conditions point to concentrated fruit, yet the wine keeps an airy texture and a fine, silky structure.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Peony, violet, fresh blackberry and a measured spice note shape the nose. The dry palate is dense without heaviness, combining fine tannin with a lifted, persistent finish. The producer recommends monkfish with lime and thyme or a vegetable tian; roast poultry is another pairing that leaves its floral detail intact. Serve gently cool, and give a young bottle a little air so the darker fruit and mineral notes can unfold.
Winery Background The estate traces its vineyard history to Benedictine monks around 1100 and has worked without synthetic chemicals since 2007. It is certified organic and biodynamic, with old, massal-selection Gamay vines. The hand-picked fruit is received by gravity, destemmed and fermented with native yeasts in concrete, then aged for an extended time in large oak vessels. It uses no carbonic or semi-carbonic maceration, which sets it apart from a quick-release Beaujolais. The cellar approach aims to preserve floral precision and freshness while giving the old-vine fruit enough time to develop texture.
