Vintage Character Domaine Marc Roy Marsannay Blanc 'Les Champs Perdrix' 2024 captures the lively side of an unusually cool, rainy Burgundy year. Difficult flowering reduced the potential crop, and persistent moisture demanded close attention to vine health. The estate nevertheless brought in sound fruit, with harvesting beginning on 13 September and this Chardonnay among the final grapes picked. That patient sequence gave the wine flesh while retaining firm acidity. Compared with the warmer surrounding vintages, the 2024 is notably leaner and more refreshing, its balance resting on energetic acidity rather than a broad or weighty expression of ripeness.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Fresh fruit leads the aroma and continues through a fleshy yet finely poised palate. There is generosity at the centre, but the acidity keeps the wine lively and the finish clean and refreshing. It is a white Burgundy whose texture does not obscure its brisk outline. Try it with grilled sea bass, oysters, or chicken with lemon and herbs. The seafood choices emphasise freshness, while chicken provides a little more richness for the wine's middle palate to meet. Serve cool rather than icy so that the fruit and texture can develop together.
Winery Background The Roy family has worked in Gevrey-Chambertin for four generations, with Alexandrine taking charge in 2003. This white wine comes from a small, steep parcel at Les Champs Perdrix, where shallow rocky soil lies over limestone. It provides a distinctive Chardonnay counterpart to the domaine's better-known Pinot Noir wines. The wine is fermented and matured in barrel on its lees, without routine lees stirring, and the house approach avoids malolactic fermentation for this cuvée. These choices preserve a clear line of acidity while allowing the fruit and lees to contribute texture.
