Gaja Barolo 'Conteisa' DOCG 2020
Vintage Character
Barolo DOCG 2020 Gaja Conteisa is a compelling showcase of Nebbiolo from the celebrated Cerequio vineyard in La Morra. The 2020 vintage in Piedmont benefited from a warm, sunny season punctuated by well-timed rainfall, resulting in wines that balance ripe, expressive fruit with refined structure.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
Awarded 95 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, this Conteisa opens with alluring aromas of rose petal, violet, wild cherry, and crushed blackberry, complemented by subtle notes of licorice, tar, and spice. On the palate, it is both elegant and powerful, featuring vibrant acidity and polished tannins that frame flavors of ripe red fruit, dried herbs, and a graceful mineral undertone, leading to a persistent, harmonious finish. The wine’s depth and finesse make it an exceptional partner for classic Piedmontese agnolotti del plin with sage butter, roast lamb with rosemary, or an aged Parmigiano Reggiano for a luxurious cheese course.
Winery Background
Established in 1859, Gaja stands as one of Italy’s most influential wine estates, renowned for its innovative spirit and dedication to the traditions of the Langhe. Under the leadership of Angelo Gaja and his family, the estate has played a pivotal role in elevating the global reputation of Barolo and Barbaresco through meticulous vineyard management, low yields, and sustainable viticulture. The Conteisa vineyard, whose name refers to a historic dispute over its boundaries, exemplifies Gaja’s commitment to expressing the nuances of terroir through single-vineyard bottlings. By harmonizing classic Nebbiolo techniques with modern precision, Gaja produces Barolo wines of remarkable complexity, longevity, and elegance, embodying both the rich heritage and forward-thinking vision of Italian fine wine.
