The 2011 vintage in southeastern Spain was hot and dry, producing concentrated fruit with ripe tannins and notable intensity.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
In the glass, the wine shows a deep cherry color with a garnet rim and aromas of ripe blackberry, blueberry, and plum, layered with smoky notes, roasted coffee, and earthy spice. The palate is powerful and rustic yet elegant, with firm tannins, dark fruit concentration, and a long, smoky finish. Its structure and depth make it a superb partner for roast lamb, grilled Iberian pork, or braised beef short ribs, offering both complexity and authenticity at the table.

The AlfYnal project was created by Bruno Prats, the former owner of Château Cos d’Estournel in Bordeaux, in collaboration with local growers in Alicante. The wine is made from very old Monastrell vines, aged between 35 and 70 years, planted at altitudes of 500–700 meters where low yields and limestone‑rich soils provide both concentration and freshness. The vineyards are dry‑farmed and pruned in gobelet, with grapes hand‑harvested to preserve quality. Winemaking follows a traditional approach, with fermentation in vats and maturation for 13–14 months in French oak barrels, around 25–30% of which are new, to add complexity without masking fruit purity.
This philosophy emphasizes showcasing Monastrell in its birthplace, Alicante, resulting in a wine that combines Mediterranean warmth with balance and finesse, standing as a benchmark expression of the variety from Spain’s Levante.
