Pintia 2020 from Toro DO is Tempos Vega Sicilia’s refined expression of Tinta de Toro, the local strain of Tempranillo, from Spain’s Castilla y León. The 2020 vintage is regarded as strong in Toro: a season with enough freshness and balance tempered the region’s natural heat, helping preserve energy and definition in a wine that still carries the depth and concentration for which the appellation is known. Set along the Duero with a markedly continental climate, Toro is shaped by poor, well-drained soils and old vines that naturally yield small berries, giving Pintia its signature combination of dark-fruited power, structure, and surprising poise.

The 2020 shows an expressive nose of blackberry, black cherry, plum, violet, cocoa, sweet spice and a subtle balsamic lift. On the palate it is full-bodied and layered, with dense yet polished tannins, vivid acidity, and a core of ripe black fruit framed by cedar, graphite and dark chocolate, finishing long, savory, and mineral. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate awarded it 93 points, underscoring both its pedigree and cellaring potential. It pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, roast lamb with rosemary, or char siu pork.

Fruit comes from carefully managed vineyards, with hand-harvesting and strict selection central to the estate’s quality philosophy. Fermentations are designed to extract richness while preserving freshness, and the wine is matured for 12 months in a mix of predominantly French oak with a smaller proportion of American oak. What makes Pintia especially compelling is this union of Toro’s muscular character with the discipline, elegance, and consistency associated with one of Spain’s most benchmark producers.
