Jiuxi Yuyue Marselan 2020
Vintage Character
The 2020 vintage of Jiuxi Yuyue Marselan Dry Red Wine offers a compelling interpretation of Marselan from the renowned Ningxia region, nestled at the foothills of China’s Helan Mountain. Benefiting from a warm, dry growing season, the 2020 harvest produced grapes with notable ripeness and concentration, resulting in a wine with impressive depth and structure. In the glass, this Marselan reveals enticing aromas of blackberry, cassis, and violet, complemented by subtle notes of black pepper and cedar.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
The palate is medium to full-bodied, delivering plush dark fruit flavors supported by fine-grained tannins and a vibrant acidity that lends energy and persistence to the finish. An elegant herbal nuance adds further complexity, making it a versatile partner for dishes such as roast lamb with rosemary, grilled duck breast, or aged Manchego cheese. Its harmonious balance and gentle spiciness also allow it to pair thoughtfully with Peking duck, while remaining particularly well-suited to classic Western cuisine.
Winery Background
Jiuxi is a boutique winery dedicated to highlighting the unique terroir of Ningxia, an area recognized for its high-altitude vineyards, well-drained sandy soils, and pronounced diurnal temperature swings. The estate practices meticulous vineyard management, emphasizing hand-harvesting and careful sorting to ensure only the best fruit is selected. In the cellar, Jiuxi employs a low-intervention approach with gentle extraction techniques to preserve the purity and character of the Marselan grape. Committed to sustainable viticulture and a philosophy rooted in respect for the land, Jiuxi strives to craft wines that authentically express their origin and elevate the reputation of Chinese wine on the global stage.
