Vintage Character The 2022 Bourgogne Rouge Côte d'Or from Maison Marchand-Tawse was shaped by a warm Burgundy season. Budburst came later than in several preceding years, limiting April frost exposure; four heatwaves and broad drought then tested the vines. Small rains helped them continue, and the regional wine board found concentration with fresh fruit rather than weight alone. The 2022 blend is unusually precise for a regional wine: eighty percent comes from the Côte de Nuits and twenty percent from the Côte de Beaune. Clay and marl mixed with stony limestone give Pinot Noir both a fruit-bearing base and drainage.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Red and dark cherry, raspberry and violet lead, with a light savoury edge of clove and earth, at 13.5% alcohol, and fresh acidity keeps the 2022 fruit alert. The structure is fine rather than strongly extracted: only five to ten percent whole bunches and a gentle maceration were used, then the wine matured in used oak. With time a forest-floor and dried-flower note can emerge, but the fruit remains the main event. Roast chicken, mushroom pasta or grilled pork meet its texture without demanding grand-cru force. Serve slightly cool, around 15 to 16 degrees, in a Burgundy glass.
Winery Background The 2022 production sheet specifies five days of cold maceration and fifteen days in vat in total. Early daily punch-downs gave way to pump-overs for gentler extraction, followed by pneumatic pressing. Fifteen months in used barrels allowed development without obvious new-wood sweetness. The wine was racked once before bottling and neither fined nor filtered. Maison Marchand-Tawse, founded on the partnership of Pascal Marchand and Moray Tawse announced in 2011, works from Nuits-Saint-Georges and sources this wine from both principal sections of the Côte d'Or.
