Vintage Character Mihope Winery Chardonnay 2022 reflects a season of contrasting phases in Ningxia's eastern Helan foothills. Hot, dry weather marked the early growth period, then steadier temperatures and moderate rainfall helped the vines complete ripening. The estate reported slightly earlier development than in the preceding year and fruit that retained a useful balance between sugar and acidity at harvest. For Chardonnay, that combination offers scope for both ripe flavour and a fresh outline. The 2022 wine develops this balance through its full varietal expression, bringing generous fruit together with a rounded texture rather than allowing either element to dominate.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Lemon and broader citrus aromas mingle with ripe stone fruit and a lightly tropical suggestion. The palate is smooth and composed, with fresh acidity carrying the fruit across its rounded middle. Lees-derived complexity adds depth, and the finish is clean and gently persistent. Twelve months of oak ageing contributes to the wine's texture, although the fruit remains the centre of attention. Try it with roast chicken, pan-fried turbot or a mushroom risotto. Each pairing has enough weight to complement the wine's smoothness, while allowing its citrus-led freshness to provide contrast throughout the meal.
Winery Background Mihope began developing its Ningxia estate in 2011 and presented its wines more widely with a product launch in 2018. Precision irrigation and modern cellar controls form part of a programme designed around the conditions of the Helan foothills. Chardonnay is one of several international grapes grown by the estate, alongside aromatic whites and structured red varieties. Here, the choice to mature a varietal white in oak gives the grape space to show a fuller side, linking the vineyard's ripe fruit with the patient development of texture in the cellar.
