Viña Errázuriz Aconcagua Costa 'La Cumbre' Syrah 2015
Vintage Character
2015 Viña Errázuriz Aconcagua Costa "La Cumbre" Syrah is an icon-level red from Chile’s Aconcagua Costa, a cold-climate coastal sector shaped by the Pacific Ocean. The 2015 vintage is regarded as strong in Chile, with dry, stable conditions helping deliver ripe fruit concentration while the maritime influence preserved freshness and aromatic lift. Planted on the rolling hills of Aconcagua Costa, where slate and schist-derived soils and constant ocean breezes temper Syrah’s natural power, this origin gives La Cumbre its distinctive mix of depth, spice and tension.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
The wine shows a vivid Syrah profile of blackberry, blueberry and black plum layered with violet, cracked black pepper, dark olive and a hint of cured meat. On the palate it is full-bodied yet controlled, with medium-high acidity, finely grained tannins and a savory, mineral thread that carries through notes of smoky spice, cocoa and subtle oak toast into a long, structured finish. It pairs beautifully with rosemary-grilled lamb chops, duck breast with cherry reduction, or char siu pork, dishes that echo its combination of dark fruit, peppery lift and savory complexity.
Winery Background
Founded in 1870 by Don Maximiano Errázuriz, Viña Errázuriz is one of Chile’s benchmark estates and a leading voice for site-driven fine wine. Under the guidance of Francisco Baettig, the house has sharpened the expression of its top bottlings through precise harvesting, restrained oak handling and a clear focus on purity and balance. La Cumbre reflects that philosophy: fruit from selected coastal hillside parcels, careful fermentation, and élevage in French oak to build texture without masking place, making it a compelling example of modern Chilean Syrah with genuine pedigree.
