Vintage Character The 2023 Love by Léoube Rouge comes from a demanding Mediterranean summer. Météo-France recorded very hot, dry conditions in Provence in July, followed by a late heatwave that lasted fourteen days in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in August. The Provence wine council said the earliest regional harvest began around 20 August. These dates frame the vintage for the region as a whole. The estate's position beside the sea, where marine air reaches schist-and-clay soils, matters when red grapes ripen through heat, and a wine that stays supple rather than heavy is a welcome expression of this year.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing The château blends Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre and Cinsault for Love Rouge, at 13.5% alcohol. It describes a violet-toned colour and an appetising nose of small red berries. The first sip is soft, with restrained tannins; red fruit opens on the palate and a note of light tobacco adds a savoury turn, with pepper and garrigue beneath. In a warm 2023 ripe fruit leads, yet the approachable texture keeps it from feeling austere. Serve around 16 to 17 degrees with charcuterie, herbed roast chicken or Provençal vegetables in olive oil. The same coastal estate that makes rosé here makes a genuinely red, softly structured wine.
Winery Background Léoube's vineyards near Bormes-les-Mimosas are organically cultivated. The Love range was developed to show a convivial, uncomplicated face of the estate while still carrying its maritime setting. For this red, alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks, and the producer gives a three-to-four-year ageing horizon rather than suggesting a grand, decades-long cellar wine. That measured ambition suits the fine tannin and red-berry profile. The five-grape blend is deliberate: Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon add structure, while Grenache and Cinsault support accessible fruit, and Mourvèdre adds depth.
