Vintage Character Château de Saint Cosme Gigondas 'Le Poste' Rouge 2024 comes from the terraced vineyard beside the estate's chapel, where Tortonian limestone marl and a cool position shape old Grenache. The southern Rhône's wet spring increased disease pressure, while a less extreme summer and cool nights extended the ripening period. These conditions placed particular value on patience and careful vineyard work. Le Poste brings a naturally defined framework to the year, combining ripe fruit with the energy and aromatic detail associated with its hillside setting. The result is a red whose power remains closely linked to finesse. The cooler nights and prolonged ripening of 2024 help explain its energetic fruit and precision alongside that power.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Violet and wild raspberry introduce a fragrant nose, with elderberry adding a darker fruit tone. Pepper, ash and a saline mineral impression give the palate further definition. The fruit has depth, but the structure is precise, building through the middle rather than spreading into softness. Freshness carries the long finish, where floral, berry and savoury impressions remain connected. Pair it with roast lamb and thyme, duck with lentils, or a rich mushroom ragout. These dishes support the wine's substance and tannic frame while leaving room for its more delicate aromatic details.
Winery Background Louis Barruol keeps the identity of Le Poste central to the cellar work. The organically farmed old Grenache is fermented in whole clusters with indigenous yeasts, then matured for twelve months in small casks. New wood makes up one fifth, with the remainder previously used, before bottling without fining or filtration. The terraces require careful cultivation, and their elevation is part of the site's cool character. This cuvée stands apart through the combination of its chapel-side marl, old vines and clearly structured expression, giving a particularly focused view of Gigondas.
