Vintage Character
Château de Saint Cosme Gigondas 2023 brings several estate soils into a blend led by Grenache, with Mourvèdre, Syrah and a little Cinsault. Across the southern Rhône, a dry winter was followed by spring rain before late-summer heat sharpened decisions about ripeness and picking. The year's warm fruit character therefore needed a fresh framework. Saint Cosme's relatively cool setting and combination of limestone, marl and sandy ground are important to that balance. The wine presents generosity with a clear outline, bringing the breadth expected from Gigondas together with a more fragrant and measured sense of movement. The late heat of 2023 therefore appears as generous fruit held within a fragrant, fresh and measured frame.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
Blackberry and fig mingle with violet and liquorice, while charcoal and incense add darker detail. The opening is ripe and supple, followed by a layered centre held by fine, powdery tannins. A fresh, faintly saline impression gives the finish lift, allowing fruit and savoury spice to remain distinct. Pair it with herb-roasted lamb, beef and mushroom pie, or roasted vegetables with lentils. These dishes have enough substance to meet the wine's depth, while their herbal and earthy flavours echo its darker accents without obscuring the perfume or the fruit.

This bottling draws its character from several vineyard settings rather than a single named parcel, making the blend a broader expression of the property. Whole-cluster fermentation and maturation in used barrels preserve a traditional link between fruit, stems and texture. The aim is not simply maximum weight: freshness and finesse remain part of the wine's identity. With substantial fruit and a firm underlying structure, it offers an expressive introduction to the estate's distinctive Gigondas style.
