Champagne Larmandier Bernier 'Latitude' Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut NV
Vintage Character
Larmandier-Bernier Latitude Extra Brut NV Champagne is a striking expression of the Côte des Blancs, crafted entirely from Chardonnay grapes grown in the chalk-rich, south-facing vineyards of Vertus. This non-vintage cuvée, blended from recent base years, showcases the purity and finesse for which the house is renowned. The nose opens with delicate white flowers, lemon zest, freshly baked brioche, and a subtle saline nuance that reflects its mineral terroir.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
On the palate, Latitude offers a harmonious balance—creamy yet precise, with lively citrus and orchard fruit flavors, a refined mousse, and an elegant mineral backbone that lingers on a chalk-infused finish. Its signature low dosage (around 4g/L) accentuates the wine’s natural tension and vibrancy, making it a classic example of Extra Brut Champagne. This wine pairs beautifully with refined Western dishes such as oysters on the half shell, seared scallops with beurre blanc, or a delicate goat cheese tart, allowing its minerality and freshness to complement sophisticated flavors.
Winery Background
The Larmandier-Bernier estate is a family-run domaine with roots in Champagne dating back to the 18th century. Today, Pierre and Sophie Larmandier oversee the vineyards, practicing certified organic and biodynamic viticulture across their holdings in Vertus and neighboring Côte des Blancs villages such as Cramant, Chouilly, Oger, and Avize. Their philosophy centers on expressing the unique character of their terroirs through minimal intervention: indigenous yeast fermentations, gentle pressing, and restrained use of dosage. The Latitude cuvée is emblematic of their commitment to authenticity, transparency, and sustainable viticulture, offering a pure and nuanced reflection of their south-facing Vertus vineyards. Larmandier-Bernier’s artisanal approach and dedication to quality have earned them a loyal following among Champagne enthusiasts seeking depth, precision, and a true sense of place.
