Vintage Character Bibi Graetz 'Testamatta' Bianco 2023 is a white Toscana IGT from Bibi Graetz, made from Ansonica. On Giglio, 2023 brought substantial winter rain after several drier, hotter years, rebuilding water reserves before a consistently mild growing season. Bibi Graetz reports an Ansonica harvest from mid-August into early September, with notably fresh acidity and aromatic lift. The contrast with the preceding hot summers matters: ripeness arrived without losing the saline, citrus-centred line of the island wine. The same weather applied across the estate's Giglio whites, while the blend, vineyard and cellar treatment make each bottling distinct.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing The winemaker describes white blossom, ripe citrus, mineral notes and a touch of sea salt in Testamatta Bianco 2023. The dry palate has a soothing, rounded middle, refreshing acidity and a crisp, persistent finish. Grilled scallops, sea bass with fennel and lemon-roasted chicken give it enough substance without covering the maritime detail. Partial barrique and lees ageing add texture, but the main flavour is Ansonica and the freshness of a granite island, not new-oak sweetness. Serve cool in a medium white-wine glass and allow a few minutes for the aromatic layers to show.
Winery Background Testamatta Bianco 2023 is entirely Ansonica from four Giglio vineyards: Serrone, Radice, Scopeto and Olivello. Their high terraced, mostly north-facing sites sit on old granitic ground and retain the local alberello training tradition. After gentle pressing, fermentation begins cool in steel; around 70% moves into barriques and spends seven months with lees and stirring, while the rest stays in steel. Graetz first released a white Testamatta in 2016 after years working with Giglio growers. This four-vineyard wine differs from single-site Colore Bianco and the younger-vine, three-grape Casamatta Bianco, though all share an island connection.
