Vintage Character Cordier Mâcon Villages 'Aux Bois d'Allier' 2024 is a Regional AOC wine from the Macon Villages appellation. Persistent rain and episodes of frost, hail and disease pressure complicated the 2024 growing season across Bourgogne. A drier August then improved ripening conditions, although yields were reduced in many places. The season puts careful selection and freshness ahead of easy abundance. For Chardonnay, the important question is how ripe orchard fruit and texture sit alongside acidity; its particular site and classification set the expectation for depth without removing the need for freshness.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Orchard fruit leads with pear and white peach; lemon sharpens the outline and a little blossom gives lift. On the palate it is dry and medium-full in body, with medium-high acidity running through the Chardonnay fruit and mineral notes adding a rounder middle. Try it with grilled sea bass, roast chicken and creamy mushroom pasta; the medium-high acidity cuts through richness while the medium-full body holds up to the sauces. Serve at 8–10°C so the lemon and pear stay in focus.
Winery Background Domaine Cordier is a family estate in Fuissé led by Christophe Cordier. Its Mâconnais vineyards span many parcels and villages, and each wine is bottled under its own appellation. The estate describes hand harvesting and organic and biodynamic work from 2018, with organic certification applying from the 2024 harvest. Here, the Macon Villages appellation bottling is where that site-conscious approach shows. Gentle handling aims to keep the character of Mâcon, Saint-Véran and Pouilly-Fuissé distinct.
