Kilikanoon Shiraz 'The Lackey' 2020
Vintage Character
The 2020 vintage in South Australia presented warm, dry conditions and below-average rainfall, resulting in Shiraz wines with notable concentration, depth, and robust fruit character. Kilikanoon Wines 'The Lackey' Shiraz 2020 exemplifies this style, offering a vibrant bouquet of blackberry, plum, and raspberry, complemented by undertones of pepper, dark chocolate, and subtle oak.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
On the palate, the wine is approachable yet richly textured, with layers of juicy dark fruit, supple tannins, and a touch of savory spice that leads to a smooth, lingering finish. This Shiraz pairs beautifully with grilled lamb chops, blue cheese, or classic beef lasagna, while Sichuan-style beef adds an intriguing contrast to its fruit-driven profile, showcasing its versatility at the table.
Winery Background
Established in 1997 in the Clare Valley, Kilikanoon Wines is recognized for producing expressive, terroir-driven wines that highlight the diversity of South Australia’s wine regions. The estate sources Shiraz from select vineyards across South Australia, including the Barossa Valley and Clare Valley, focusing on sustainable viticulture and minimal intervention winemaking to capture varietal purity and regional character. Kilikanoon's philosophy centers on meticulous blending and thoughtful barrel selection, resulting in wines that are both accessible and complex, appealing to a broad spectrum of wine enthusiasts and reflecting the winery’s commitment to quality and authenticity.
