Vintage Character Domaine de Cristia Côtes du Rhône 'Vieilles Vignes' 2022 is a red from Côtes du Rhône, France, made from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. A mild, very dry winter and spring pushed the Rhône's 2022 vines roughly three weeks ahead in many areas. Summer heat and drought raised concern, but rain in mid-August and September restarted ripening before a spread-out harvest. For the Grangeon family's southern wines, the season can bring generous red fruit and ripe tannin. The key is how water reserves, late rain and picking choices moderated the heat. This is a broad and immediately fruit-laden vintage.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Red cherry, raspberry, blackberry and a touch of garrigue give the nose a generous but lifted character. The palate is dry, medium-full and fruit-forward, with fresh acidity and rounded tannin before a lightly peppery finish. Grilled pork, tomato stew and roast vegetables suit its direct southern style. Serve a little cooler than room temperature to protect the red-fruit definition.
Winery Background Domaine de Cristia's Côtes du Rhône Vieilles Vignes comes from older family vines near Courthézon, outside the Châteauneuf cru boundary. The Grangeons' estate began in the 1950s and has held organic certification since the 2008 harvest. Their predominantly sandy soils and Grenache-led plantings shape a supple southern style; the estate describes Côtes du Rhône reds as gently fermented in concrete and kept there for roughly eight to twelve months. It is a Côtes du Rhône, separate from the estate's Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines. The old-vine designation reflects selected fruit rather than a formal cru ranking.
