Vintage Character Arillo in Terrabianca 'Campaccio Selezione Riserva' Toscana IGT 2001 comes from a Tuscan season that combined ripe fruit with substantial structure. Easter frost reduced yields in parts of the region, before a hot, dry summer encouraged ripening without the most extreme heat stress. Harvest brought alternating rain, cooler weather and sunny intervals, making the timing of picking important. This regional backdrop helps explain the interplay of fruit concentration and freshness in a Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon blend. The character of 2001 lies in that combination: generous fruit supported by a firm frame, rather than richness alone.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Dark cherry, plum and sour cherry lead into leather, clove, undergrowth and a herbal accent. The palate is full and rounded, but a lively thread keeps the fruit from feeling heavy and carries it into a sustained finish. Its savoury details offer a counterpoint to the warmer fruit, giving the wine a more layered impression than simple sweetness or weight. Mature bottles will naturally reflect their individual storage history. Pair it with rosemary-roasted lamb, porcini risotto or braised beef with root vegetables; these dishes complement both the developed aromas and the wine's remaining structure.
Winery Background Terrabianca's modern history began in 1988, when the Guldener family acquired the estate near Radda in Chianti. Their international outlook found a natural expression in blends of Tuscan Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Selezione Riserva represents a selected reserve expression of Campaccio, with this release matured for twenty-four months in French and American oak barriques, followed by twelve months in bottle. It belongs to the earlier Terrabianca era, before the Burkard family's later Arillo in Terrabianca project, and preserves that period's meeting of regional character and ambitious barrel ageing.
