Vintage Character Arillo in Terrabianca 'Campaccio Selezione Riserva' Toscana IGT 2004 offers the depth of a structured Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon blend from a measured growing season. In the Chianti Classico area around the estate, the vine cycle began late after the preceding year's water stress. Well-distributed rainfall then supported gradual, steady ripening, helping fruit accumulate sugar while retaining acidity. This regional setting provides useful context for the wine's combination of richness and a substantial frame. The defining feature of 2004 is the measured progression towards ripeness, allowing concentration to develop without making weight the sole focus.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Savoury dark-fruit character introduces a palate with considerable depth and a rich, almost unctuous texture. Firm, chewy tannins give the wine shape and keep that generous centre from becoming soft or loose. The impression is one of density carried by structure, with savoury detail running alongside the fruit. It is a red for food and an unhurried glass, rather than a style that relies on easy sweetness. Try it with slow-roasted beef, venison with mushrooms or braised lamb shoulder. Those substantial dishes complement its concentration and tannins; as with any mature vintage, individual bottle condition remains important.
Winery Background The Guldener family acquired Terrabianca in 1988 and developed an internationally minded approach at their Radda in Chianti estate. Campaccio Selezione Riserva belongs to that earlier chapter, pairing Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon in a selected reserve bottling. The 2004 spent twenty-four months in oak, giving its substantial fruit a lengthy period of maturation before release. It predates the Burkard family's Arillo in Terrabianca project, established after their 2019 acquisition. This historical bottling therefore reflects the earlier estate's interpretation of a Tuscan blend, with barrel ageing and tannic structure central to its character.
