2006 Giuseppe Cappellano Barolo 'Pie Franco' DOCG is a singular expression of Barolo from Serralunga d'Alba, made from Nebbiolo and drawn from the famed Gabutti cru. Widely regarded as a strong, classical vintage in Barolo, 2006 combined a long growing season with a steady autumn, allowing thorough ripening while preserving the firm acidity and tannic architecture for which the year is known. The wine's origin is especially distinctive because the tiny Piè Franco parcel is planted to ungrafted Nebbiolo vines in Gabutti's calcareous clay-and-marl soils, a rarity in the Langhe that gives this bottling both cultural importance and remarkable site definition.

The bouquet opens with dried rose, sour cherry, wild strawberry and orange peel, then deepens into tar, anise, balsamic herbs and subtle truffle.
