Domenico Clerico Barbera d'Alba Trevigne 2022
Vintage Character
The 2022 Barbera d'Alba Trevigne from Domenico Clerico exemplifies the vibrancy and depth characteristic of top Barbera from Piedmont’s renowned Alba hills. The 2022 vintage in the region saw a warm, sunny growing season with well-timed rainfall, resulting in balanced ripening and expressive, concentrated fruit.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
Awarded 91 points by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, this wine opens with lively aromas of wild cherry, blackberry, and hints of violet, layered with subtle spice and mineral nuances. On the palate, it delivers juicy red and black fruit flavors, refreshing acidity, and a supple, medium-bodied texture that leads to a persistent, mouthwatering finish. Its energetic structure makes it a versatile partner for a range of dishes, including Italian favorites like tagliatelle al ragù, grilled lamb chops, and semi-aged cheeses such as Taleggio. For added variety, the wine’s brightness also pairs well with Chinese-style braised pork belly, cutting through the richness of the dish.
Winery Background
Domenico Clerico, established in 1976 in Monforte d’Alba, stands among Barolo’s most respected modern producers, recognized for meticulous vineyard management and a commitment to expressing terroir. The estate’s philosophy emphasizes low yields, sustainable viticulture, and minimal intervention in the cellar to allow the fruit’s purity and the vineyard’s character to shine. Trevigne is crafted from grapes sourced from three distinct parcels in the Alba area, each contributing to the wine’s complexity and elegance. Through careful grape selection and attentive winemaking, Clerico showcases Barbera’s potential for freshness, structure, and expressive varietal character, making Trevigne a benchmark for the appellation.
