2020 Simonsig Tiara is a premium Bordeaux-style red blend from Stellenbosch, one of South Africa’s most respected fine-wine regions. The 2020 vintage in Stellenbosch was generally regarded as very good, with a dry growing season and stable ripening conditions helping to deliver concentrated fruit, sound structure, and notable balance. Drawn from the Cape’s granite- and shale-influenced soils under a Mediterranean climate tempered by ocean breezes, this wine reflects the region’s ability to produce ripe Cabernet-led blends with freshness, definition, and age-worthy poise.

Tasting Profile & Food Pairing
On the nose, Tiara offers blackcurrant, dark plum, black cherry and violet, layered with cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, vanilla and dark chocolate. The palate is full-bodied and polished, with cassis-driven fruit at its core, medium-high acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a savoury oak frame that brings shape rather than heaviness. Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec add lift and detail to the blend, and the finish is long, dry, and gently spicy. Pair it with herb-crusted lamb rack, grilled ribeye with rosemary, or roast duck with cherry glaze.

Winery Background
Simonsig Estate is one of Stellenbosch’s historic family producers, owned by the Malan family and widely recognized as a pioneer of modern South African wine. The estate is especially noted for producing South Africa’s first Méthode Cap Classique in 1971, while Tiara represents its flagship Bordeaux-inspired red blend. Fruit is sourced from estate vineyards, with a philosophy centered on sustainable viticulture, careful site matching, and precision blending under third-generation winemaker Michael Malan. Matured for 18 months in French oak, Tiara stands out for combining classical structure with unmistakable Stellenbosch generosity.
