Vintage Character Bibi Graetz 'Casamatta' Rosso 2022 is a red Toscana IGT from Bibi Graetz, made from Sangiovese. The estate describes 2022 around Fiesole as cooler on average, yet punctuated by sharper summer heat peaks. Altitude and persistent wind kept its vines from severe water or heat stress, letting Sangiovese mature slowly and evenly. Picking ran from mid-September to mid-October. For Casamatta Rosso, that rhythm supports lively red fruit and fine tannin rather than a jammy, heat-driven centre. It is a more balanced picture than a simple summer temperature suggests, and steel-only vinification keeps the seasonal fruit definition.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing The nose centres on bright cherry and raspberry, with a little violet and dry herb. Its dry, medium-bodied palate offers fine, supple tannin, measured acidity and a transparent red-fruit finish. Tomato pasta, grilled chicken and salumi complement the wine's direct, appetising character. It sees no oak, so the focus stays on fresh fruit with no vanilla or toast. A slightly cool serving temperature helps its fruit stay nimble. This is a Sangiovese for the table rather than a dense, long-cellared Tuscan red.
Winery Background Casamatta Rosso comes from selected Sangiovese in Graetz's Vincigliata and Olmo estates at Fiesole. The 2022 is 100% Sangiovese, fermented briefly in steel for no more than one week with no extra post-fermentation maceration, and kept six months in steel after the vineyard parcels are blended. The estate calls it a little Testamatta, a stylistic relationship rather than the same wine or selection. The process aims to retain freshness, transparency and the force of red fruit. It does not see the long large-cask ageing of Soffocone or the older barriques of Colore.
