Vintage Character Mihope Winery 'Enjoy' Syrah 2021 grew in a season with long sunshine hours and pronounced day-to-night temperature contrasts. Mihope recorded 2,208 hours of sunshine and a frost-free period of 163 days, with flowering five days ahead of the previous year. A daily temperature range of 16.3°C combined warm afternoons with much cooler nights, giving the estate conditions for both flavour development and a fresh structural line. In this Syrah, the vintage is expressed through dark fruit, spice and a full but composed palate. Its richness is accompanied by fine tannin and balanced acidity, rather than relying on weight alone for impact.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairing Blackcurrant and blackberry open the nose, followed by liquorice, pepper and a roasted coffee accent. The palate is generous and layered, with fine-grained tannins providing shape beneath the fruit. Acidity keeps the dark flavours moving, and the finish is long without losing its savoury detail. Give it time in a broad glass to let the pepper and coffee notes separate from the fruit. Grilled lamb, beef short ribs or roast aubergine with herbs are useful partners, offering the depth and savoury character to complement the wine's rounded strength.
Winery Background Mihope's project began in 2011 in Ningxia's eastern Helan foothills, where the estate combines precision irrigation with modern cellar facilities. Its range explores a number of international varieties, and Syrah offers a particularly useful meeting of fruit, spice and structure. The Enjoy series provides a focused way of encountering these different varietal expressions. Here the emphasis is on the relationship between ripe fruit and the grape's peppery side, shaped into a red that has substance but also enough definition to remain engaging over a meal.
